We work with children and their parents, and the school system to make sure that parents and teachers are aware of the unique ADHD profile of the child, and encourage both to work with the strengths and gifts of the child.
Untreated ADHD in adults is often perplexing to the individual and significant others. Its often difficult to make sense of the obvious potential coupled with poor achievement or out-right failure. We provide assessment and psychotherapy, when needed, to advance the individual towards a life of success.
The wealth of research in ADHD has revealed a number of co-occurring disorders that are sometimes revealed during a thorough clinical investigation, which may include; anxiety and depression, learning disorders, sensory processing disorders, oppositional defiant disorder, and others.
Assessments for ADHD differ for adults and children. For adults, a thorough family history including childhood trauma, and clinical observation is required. In children, along with a thorough family history and clinical observation, there is an ADHD parent's and ADHD teacher's report that is standard practice before making a diagnosis - this can take up to two weeks.
Treatment for ADHD often requires a team approach, which might include psychotherapy and medication. In some cases medication, if required, may be taken as needed, in other cases medication is required in order for other forms of treatment to be successful.
